Fine Finish Painting

Gloss Shows Everything Underneath It

A high-gloss door or a lacquered cabinet shows every dent and ridge under it. The work starts well before the paint does. FPE trains and certifies applicators, and we’re a Fine Paints of Europe Master Certified contractor.

01Overview

The Prep Takes Longer Than the Paint

McDermaid Restoration & Remodeling has done fine finish painting on Peninsula homes for 34 years, in Level 5 drywall, lacquer, conversion varnish and Fine Paints of Europe. Sprayed over a properly prepared surface, the finish looks like factory work. Over a poor one, the gloss shows every flaw. Call (650) 961-7415.

02Six finishes

Six Finishes We Apply

  1. Level 5 Drywall Prep

A skim coat over the whole wall. Under gloss or low raking light, anything less shows.

  2. HVLP Spray Application

A low-pressure spray that lays the finish on evenly, with no brush marks to level out.

  3. Conversion Varnish

The standard hard finish for cabinets and millwork. It stands up to a working kitchen.

  4. Waterborne Alkyd

Benjamin Moore Advance, for brushwork that levels out close to a sprayed finish.

  5. FPE Hollandlac

A Dutch oil enamel, and the deepest gloss we apply.

  6. Color Consultation

Included. Colors chosen from samples in the room they’re going in.

03Our Process

How the Work Goes

Step 1 of 4: Assessment

  1. We look at each surface and decide what goes on it.

  2. A skim coat, then sanding until the wall is flat.

  3. The primer each finish calls for. Without it the topcoat grips poorly and dries patchy.

  4. HVLP spray on millwork, cabinets and walls, in thin, even coats.
