In a WUI zone? Under California’s Safer from Wildfires regulation (10 CCR §2644.9), insurers that price for wildfire risk must factor certain mitigation measures into their rates. Your insurer and your policy decide whether that changes your premium. Ask your agent.

Fire-Resistant Siding

Hardie fiber cement siding for Peninsula WUI homes. We install the non-combustible boards and paint them as one job.

01Exterior Cladding

The biggest surface on the house

Siding covers more of the outside of a house than anything else. Wood siding is combustible, and it can catch from direct flame or from embers that pile up against it. In a Wildland-Urban Interface zone, non-combustible siding is one of the first upgrades we’d look at.

We work in Hardie fiber cement. Our B-2 remodeling license lets us take on the whole job, from tearing off the old siding to hanging the new boards, the trim and the paint.

Where fiber cement came from

James Hardie developed fiber cement in Australia in the 1980s to replace asbestos-cement sheeting. It kept the durability and fire resistance and dropped the asbestos. It’s Portland cement reinforced with cellulose fibers, and it carries a flame spread index of zero.

Hardie® Fiber Cement Siding

Hardie siding is made from Portland cement, sand, silica and cellulose fibers. It’s non-combustible and carries a Class A fire rating. You can get it as lap siding, shingles, panels and trim.

Hanging it

How the boards go on matters as much as what they’re made of. We follow the manufacturer’s specifications for fastening, flashing and detail work, and our crews are trained on fiber cement.

Painting it

We’re painting contractors too, so the siding and the paint are one job. The new boards get the right primer, in the right order, and a finish coat that keeps the weather off them.

The WUI Code

The siding we install is tested to the standards California’s WUI code (CWUIC, Title 24, Part 7) references. Your building department decides final compliance. We give you the project records for your permit file and your AB 38 disclosure.

03Our Process

How a re-side goes

Step 1 of 4: Assessment

  1. A look at the siding you have now, and a written spec for the replacement.

  2. The old siding comes off, and we check the sheathing underneath.

  3. The new siding goes on, flashed properly at the details.

  4. We paint it, or install boards that come prefinished.

Thinking about new siding?

We’ll come look at the house, go through Hardie, wood and vinyl with you, and give you a written estimate.
